How about a bit of random today?

Here you go.

Even though it's not officially spring yet I've started some spring decorating.

Which really means, Ethan is making some spring crafts.

I love these little bird houses from Michael's. I mean, a dollar! Can't beat that!

He was so careful to fill in every spot with color, all but one side, don't ask me why.

Oh and you can't see it but there's glitter paint on it too. Awesome.

I'm making a chicken salad for dinner tonight with these fine ingredients. Yum!

I started a bible study this morning with a group of ladies I don't know, well all but one.

This is way out of my comfort zone but this fell into my lap and I knew I needed to do it.

Everyone was very nice and welcoming, and my nervousness soon disappeared.

I'm looking forward to the next 9 weeks.

Have you done a Beth Moore bible study?

She's intense but I like her.

Lastly, this is how Jacob could spend all of his time.

If only I had a quarter of that energy. Geesh!!

Today we baked a cake.

Because it was raining and because Ethan had been asking me to for the last two days.

He got to pick the flavor, frosting color and sprinkles.

He was so proud.

And then he devoured it.

Not a bad way to start out the week.

Last week a new website was launched called Beautifully Rooted.

A ton of my favorite bloggers are contributing and so far I've really enjoyed each post.

I was especially interested in one of the posts, or challenges really.

The challenge was to be intentional about capturing God
in your everyday life through your camera lens.

Perfect, easy, no brainer.

I take a zillion pictures a day, this would be a piece of cake.

Only problem, it wasn't.

In my head I had the grand idea of what my photograph should look like and I imagined an immense emotion would burst out of the image.

It wasn't happening.

I was trying too hard to capture what I believed would be amazing instead of letting it just come to me.

I decided I had nothing worthy since my photographs were not "good enough".

Then while I was outside this evening, I looked up.

The sun was setting, orange and pink clouds filled the blue sky.

I called the boys into the backyard so they could see the colors change as the sky grew darker.

We began a conversation about God and His creation, were He lives, and what He looks like.

And then it hit me, all this week while I was looking behind the camera, trying so hard to get the perfect image, I was missing what was in front of me the whole time.
God's amazing creation and the opportunity for my children to learn about Him.

How many times during the day do I stop and take in God's creation?
How many times during the day do I share God's amazing creativity with my kids?
Sadly, far too little.

So, no my photograph is not perfect, it's not even good at best.
But it's not about the photograph, it's about what this photograph represents and the lesson I learned today.

It's Friday!!

Here's my cell pics of the week.

Lunch one day.

For Brett's birthday I took him to the swanky restaurant.

We had never been and the food was divine.

I also brought along a little activity for us to do over dinner.

I found this questionnaire in a magazine and I thought it would be fun.

We had a great time with it and learned a few new things about one another.

Ethan made chocolate chip cookies for Brett's birthday, so we paired it with Brett's favorite ice cream, mint n' chip.

Valentine's Day shoes.

Ethan likes to take pictures of me with my phone.

My little pirate.

Jacob thought it would be a good idea to walk around the house eating his cereal.

Surprisingly he didn't spill it.

Brett comes home today, he actually on a plane right this minute.

We miss him. It'll be good to have him home.

What I'm Loving.

This little head of hair.

I was going to have it cut but I chickened out.

I'm not ready for him to become a little boy yet.

He can stay my baby a bit longer.

Ethan's little face at his first Valentine's Day party at school.

Also, his valentine envelope filled with goodies and the card he made for Brett and I.

Art and craft time with my boys.

Jacob is starting to enjoy it more and eats less of it each time.

Water and noodles.

I gave the boys a big bowl of water, smaller bowls, measuring cups, and uncooked noodles and let them have at it.

They played nicely and quietly for 30 minutes.

30 minutes people.

Never happens.

They made quite the mess and Jacob was not thrilled when we had to put it away, but it was well worth it.

Seriously, I may just do this activity every day.

Brett is out of town today.

It's the first Valentine's Day we have not spent together.

We never do anything big for the day but I do miss having him here with me to celebrate.

At least I get to spend the day with my littlest Valentines.

If you have yet to hop on the Pinterest bandwagon I suggest you do so.

I'm not as addicted as I thought I would be and it really has given me some great ideas for the house, the boys, me, parties and all things food related.

So I thought I'd share some of the great recipes I've found on Pinterest.

I've made this 3 times already since I've pinned it.

It's great as tacos but we liked it even better in a salad.

We added romaine lettuce, black beans, corn, salsa, cheese, tomatoes, avocado....you could go on and on.

Master Bathroom Remodel {part 2}.

Oh goodness it's been over a week and this little blog here has sat quiet.

Actually I haven't thought about blogging much these last few weeks.

I guess I sometimes just need a break from it all.

I mean I haven't looked at Pinterest in like 5 days.

What? Craziness I tell you.

Anyway, I snapped a few pictures of our master bathroom remodel today.

I had intended on taking more pictures along the way, but you know how that goes.

So here's the progress so far.

The new vanity and counter top has been installed.

The new sinks are ready to be hooked up.

And we have these nice little custom shelves on both sides which will be painted white.

The shower is almost complete.

I am in love with the tile. In Love.

You can't tell in the pictures but the shower floor has the same hexagon tile.

I love hexagon tile.

I would have put all over the bathroom floor but I didn't want the hassle of cleaning the grout.

Speaking of floors, I'm also in love with our new floor.

It's a little dusty in these pictures so it looks a bit lighter than it actually is.

I love the distressed wood look and yet it's tile.

Much more user friendly for a bathroom than real wood.

I've also decided on a paint color.

Can you figure out which one?

Ok, I'll tell.

It's the one on the right.

We're hoping just another couple of weeks before it's all finished.

We're getting close and I've loving it!

Oh and does anyone else want to remodel their whole house just because they started one project?

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Some days are rough.

Some days I seriously wonder why I've chosen to stay home.

Some days I'm tired of the arguing, the laundry, the mess.

Some days I feel like ripping my hair out.

Then I have a day like today.

A good, fairly easy, calm day.

Where the arguments are few, the laundry is tolerable and the mess doesn't bother me.

A day where we can do whatever we want, enjoying the time we get to spend with one another.

Days like today I don't want to forget.

I want to keep them at the forefront of my mind at all times.

Because in the end they make all the rough ones not so bad after all.

I haven't been taking many pictures with my phone lately but here's a few I've got.

We went to a birthday party and in the goodie bags were these fun glasses.

The boys thought they were hilarious.

Break dancing happens just about every day in our house.

We've been on a french toast kick lately.

What better way to start the day than full of sugar.

Ethan and I had a little date one night.

We love Golden Spoon. The peanut butter cup flavor is my favorite.

We had a very rainy day this week so the boys got to eat popcorn and watch movies all day.

p.s. please notice Jacob's face. He's saying, "cheeeese" with a mouth full of popcorn. He's such a ham these days.

It rained for a few hours on Saturday morning.

After the clouds cleared a little bit and before the boys got dressed for the day, I sent them outside to splash around.

As much as I am not a fan of the rain I have to admit, sometimes it is a nice change for the boys.

Master Bathroom Remodel {part 1}.

This was my master bathroom.

Not the best, but not the worst either.

Our biggest problem was this...

The tile on the floor, which really is wall tile, started to crack and chip. And once you start pulling out tile chances are the next one will crack and the next and the next.

So we thought about just replacing the floor.

But the floor tile leads into the shower tile.

So we thought about replacing just the floor and shower tile.

But we really did need a new toilet, which we've been saying for 2 years.

And 2 sinks really would be nice.

So we ripped it all out.

This was after demo was complete.

Today it looks like this...

Plumbing, electrical, and framing complete.

At the end of the day we will have new tile, 2 sinks, a larger more open shower, a new toilet, new lights, a new cabinet (less storage), and new paint.

I can't wait for it to be finished.

I'm just hoping it looks as good finished as it does in my head.

I've got a lot of random stuff on my mind, here goes....

I'm sick, still sick. It's been a month. I finally went to the doctor on Friday and got some antibiotics.

I hope they kick in soon.

I'm just tired of being sick.

Now my little one is sick.

He woke up this morning with a gooey green eye, yuck.

I had no idea that you could even have stuff like that coming out of your eye.

It's so sad.

So he's now on antibiotics too.

I feel like I shouldn't even complain for one second about us being sick since my friend's 4 week old baby girl is in hospital.

She's been diagnosed with RSV but they still need to do some tests to rule out everything.

If she doesn't start eating soon they'll have to give her a feeding tube, which most likely will increase her stay in the PICU.

Please pray for her. Her name is Phoebe.

We started the remodel of our mater bathroom.

So far I'm doing pretty good with surviving the mess and it's not driving me crazy.

But it's only been a week.

I'll share pictures soon.

I bought some new throw pillows for the couch.

I love them.

It doesn't take much to make me happy.

I went to our local flea market this weekend and found this beauty.

I love it. The color, the rust, it's perfect.

My great grandma had one in her kitchen and I've been looking for the right one.

Plus it will be perfect for Ethan when he helps me cook.

I've never really decorated much for Valentine's Day but we have a few things up this year.

Nothing fancy, just a few small things.

I plan on making some fun decorations with Ethan and Jacob.

It's been a while since I've done an InstaFriday post.

Actually it's been a while since I've actually blogged or read a blog.

What have I been doing with my days?

I'm not too sure.

I just haven't been feeling it lately I guess.

Hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things soon.

Anyway, here's my cell pics from the week or maybe it's a little more than a week, I'm not sure.

Manicures make me happy. I rarely get them these days.

Jacob eats cereal like a big boy now and it makes him so happy.

My sister and I and went to the mall and the wee ones went with us.

The double stroller is a beast but it's better than pushing two around.

Jacob's first ride on the Disneyland merry go round.

I love this picture of Ethan.

We were on the pirate ship at Disneyland, just the two of us. He had me running around the ship, exploring, and saying to me, "Come on Matey."

I know all too soon he won't want to play pirates with me anymore and he will want to run around this very ship with his friends, not his silly mom.

It was one of those moments that I will keep forever.

Jacob likes to rake the leaves.

This little monkey man climbed up onto my kitchen counter and was trying to help himself to some snacks, all in 30 seconds. I truly believe he will give me a heart attack one day, sooner than later.

One of the best things about living in Southern California is that we can still play outside even after the sun has gone down. Thank goodness for wonderful weather.

Handmade Gifts.

I know this is a little late but I wanted to share the handmade gifts I gave a Christmas this year.

Honestly, I forgot I even took pictures of them until I was looking through my Christmas pictures.

I decided to still share because all of these can be given for any occasion, plus they were pretty inexpensive, which makes everyone happy.

I made this for my mom.

This is only the second fabric wreath that I have ever made and I was really happy with the way it turned out.

I also made one for my mother in law (which I forgot to take a photo of) and I liked it too.

I could make a zillion of them and hang them all over the house but I'm not too certain all the boys in the house would appreciate it.

I made these for my sisters.

I love all of them, the hoop art and my sisters, haha.

I don't know how to sew or stitch so it's not perfect, but I like them like that.

I really tried to make each one reflect their individual style and taste and I'm pretty sure I achieved my goal.

Well at least they told me I did.

This last one is not really all handmade but it might just be my favorite gift I gave this year.

I love, love, love my succulents I planted a few months back and I wanted to share my love for them.

I picked up a few of these pots at Ikea for a great price, of course.

I took the boys to Home Depot and Ethan selected most of the succulents.

I had planned on him helping my plant all of them, but since he was sick it didn't work out.

Anyway, I just stamped some craft paper, taped it on and tied some red yarn around.

Everyone loved them!

This will definitely be my go to gift all year.

I loved giving handmade gifts this year. It's so much more personal and thoughtful.

I hope everyone loved receiving them as much a I loved giving them.

A Lovely Monday at the Beach.

Today we headed on down to the beach to enjoy the wonderful weather we've been having here.

Near 80's in January? Crazy!

We played on the jungle gym, swung on the swings, ran on the sand, explored under the pier and ate lunch at one of our favorite spots.

If only every Monday could be this fun and easy.

Intentions.

I did not intend on taking a "blogging break" this past week.

Actually, I had intended on posting about our wonderful Christmas and filling you all in on the wonderful things we were doing since Brett has been off work.

I intended on cooking fabulous new meals and eating all the leftover holiday sweets.

I intended on taking a zillion photographs of the kids since I got a fancy new flash for Christmas.

I intended on relaxing, possibly reading a book and painting my nails.

I intended on spending some nice, quality time with my husband.

Those things did not happen.

We got terribly, horribly sick.

Sicker than we've ever been.

I'll spare you the gory details but let me tell you it was not pretty.

Thankfully, Jacob did not get it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't.

I was bummed out my plans didn't go according to the way I wanted them to go.

I should know better.

Because really, it's not about my plans, but His plans, ya feel me?

Instead of sulking around about what didn't go my way I'm looking at the brighter side of things.

Silly as it may sound, being as sick as we were, my husband and I actually became a bit closer.

Seeing a person you love at their worse can do that to you.

We were a team and we worked well together. We cared for one another and helped each other even though we felt horrible ourselves.

It wasn't easy.

I know this sounds very melodramatic and all, but seriously...sickest we've ever been.

So with all that said, we are better.

Our health is better and we're better as a family.

Which makes me really happy as we jump into 2012.

I have every intention of having a wonderful evening bringing in the new year with my family and our friends.

But if for some reason that doesn't go the way I planned, well I'm sure I'll have something to learn.

Catching Up.

Oh hi there.

Did I fall off the face of the earth?

Nope.

We've just been super busy as I am sure the rest of the world has been.

Days have gone by without me even thinking about blogging or checking my reader, which is now ridiculously full. There is no way I will ever be able to read all I have missed but life will go on.

With that said, I thought I would catch all of you up on what's been happening around here.

For Christmas this year my parents bought my sisters and our families passes to Disneyland.

I haven't had one in years and I am so excited.

The kids loved it even though we only went on 2 rides and stayed for a short while.

We will definitely be getting good use out of these this year.

We had brunch with Brett's parents last weekend and the boys got to meet Santa.

Jacob did a lot better than I had anticipated.

And we even managed to get a decent family picture in.

I made these yummy little treats. Pinterest has given me way to many ideas, especially in the sweets department.

Ethan had his first preschool Christmas party and program.

He sat up on that stage so cute and shy looking and only put his hands down his pants once.

Little voices singing about the birth of Jesus and little heads bowed to pray is the sweetest thing ever.

We tried to get a photo of all the cousins together and well you can see how that went.

We celebrated Christmas early with Brett's family this year since they will be out of town.

I took like five pictures. Horrible.

Brett got the iPad 2 which he could not be more happy.

This is the only picture I took of Jacob, proof that he was there.

Oh that little face.

Ethan and his cousin received rival football uniforms.

It was nice celebrating a week early. Ethan had been asking to open presents for the last week and this way he didn't have to wait as long. Plus the kids get to play with all their new stuff now and then some again on Christmas morning. Works for me.

Mister Jacob's personality is getting funnier and funnier each day.

He cracks me up.

I had to get reading glasses and I have to say, I like them.

Lastly, and not my favorite, my boy is sick.

He has a bit of the stomach flu, which seems to be better today, but oh last night was pitiful.

I have never felt so badly for this little one ever.

I'm really just thankful he didn't get sick closer to Christmas.

Now I am just praying we all don't get it.

That's been what happening with us.

I can't believe how much Jacob is changing every day.

I have not taken much video of him, which I really should.

I swore I would never be that mom to have less photos and video of the second kid. I'm trying.

Here is some of what he can say these days.

Oh and he can flex his muscles.

He had just finished dinner which explains the mess.

Every day he says something new and he's communicating with us more and more.

It really is amazing to watch him learn and soak it all in.

He has also become quite the helper.

He needs to have something to do at all times.

He's not one for sitting and reading a book. He's on the move all day so I try to come up with as much for him to do as possible.

He really likes to help with the laundry, especially loading the dryer and it doesn't matter if the clothes are dirty, clean, wet or dry.

So that's our little man as of today.

Full of energy, excitement, giggles and mischief.

Oh how I love him so.

Christmas is...

Remembering.

For me, each year Christmas brings new traditions, holiday gatherings, gift giving, baking, and time with family.

I love all of it.

I love the look on the kids faces while decorating, looking at Christmas lights, visiting Santa and listening to Christmas music.

We are making wonderful memories that will last forever.

At the same time, during the Christmas season I also like to remember.

I like to think back on the many (well not too many, I'm not that old) Christmas's before.

I remember laying in bed with my sister eagerly awaiting the first crack of sunlight so we could get our parents out of bed to open presents.

I remember my mom's side of the family all gathering at my grandparents house, being cramped in the small living room, and at the count of 3 all of us kids would open a gift at the same time. It was a sea of wrapping paper and toys and kids.

I remember my grandparents coming over every Christmas morning to see what Santa brought us. We would then sing Happy Birthday to Jesus and enjoy my mom's coffee cake.

I remember the first Christmas Brett and I celebrated together and opening our gifts in my tiny apartment.

I have no bad memories of Christmas, only happy times and it's nice to sit back a remember it all.

It's also during this time that I am reminded how fortunate I am and I remember those that are in need.

I think about those that have no family, no food, or a roof over their head.

I think about the little ones that will have nothing to open on Christmas morning.

And I am reminded to give back.

In the years past we have donated canned goods to the local food pantry, bought a toy for a child in need, or filled a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child.

It takes just a little of our time and money yet I know it goes a long way.

I wish I did this more often through out the year.

I think I need to add this to our "to-do list" for 2012.

Lastly, and most importantly, I remember the true reason we celebrate Christmas.

The birth of Jesus.

It can be easily pushed aside with all the holiday gatherings, present opening, cookie baking, and talk about Santa.

Don't get me wrong, I love all of it, but our focus needs to be on the birth of our Savior.

I make sure to tell the boys of the significance of the nativity sitting on the shelf and we read books about the birth of Jesus.

We sing Christmas songs about His birth and make Him a cake for His birthday on Christmas morning.

I love that the boys enjoy Santa, the elf on the shelf, the lights, the tree, the decorations.

But nothing makes me happier then when I ask Ethan why we celebrate Christmas and his answer comes shouting out,

"Baby Jesus!"

I hope this Christmas you also remember the good times you've had, those in need and most of all the birth Jesus.

And it's a Happy Friday indeed.

Brett and I got all of our Christmas shopping done today and we finally got our tree.

I can't wait to fill it with lights and ornaments tomorrow morning.

But until then I thought I would share my phone photos from the last week or so.

Sitting in the Grass.

I can't believe a whole week has gone by and I have not blogged even once.
Our days are already filling up quickly with holiday activities and it's only December 4th.
That's just crazy!
I'm sure over the next few weeks I will be spending less time on the computer and more time with friends and family, which is a good thing, I'm not complaining.

Today though, we had no plans.
Brett went to watch football with some friends so the boys and I just hung around the house.
I've been terrible about taking pictures of them lately so I grabbed my camera and we headed into the backyard.
I'm so thankful we live in a part of the country that is warm enough to be outside most of the time.
I think I would go crazy with these two in the house all day.

It seems like the leaves are falling from our trees much later this year, probably due to the warmer weather we have had. The boys spent quite a bit of time investigating the leaves, well Ethan more than Jacob. Jacob just had fun throwing them around.

I enjoyed sitting in the grass, soaking up the sun, wearing my Uggs.

I love them.
I started wearing them in the 8th grade and they are still my favorite thing to wear when it starts to get chilly.

The boys eventually started digging as it seems they always do.
I mean, what fun is it being outside if you aren't covered in dirt by lunch time?

Sometimes I forget to stop, sit in the grass and just relax, especially during the holiday season.

I'm glad I took the time today to just sit and play with the boys.

I know they need it just as much as I do too.

Getting Crafty {Advent Calendar}.

We haven't had an advent calendar in our house, ever.

I know, horrible mother.

Truth is I didn't want the extra candy around and Ethan was still too small to really "get it".

This year is a different story.

He's starting to "get it" so we needed an advent calendar.

I was browsing all the fabulous ones on Pinterest but most required sewing (I do not) and many seemed really time consuming (I have very little).

So I made a really simple easy one.

All I did was cut strips of paper, fold them in half and hot glue the sides to make a pocket.

Then I cut out squares of green and red paper, stamped them with the numbers and hot glued them on.

I then filled each with Christmas M&M's (a favorite in our house), hung some ribbon and used mini clothespins to hang them.

I couldn't fit all of them on one strand but I like having two.

Best part, I only had to buy the ribbon and candy.

Everything else I already had.

We have been busy as I'm sure all of you have been too.

Since I have a had little time to blog the last couple of days, I thought I'd just throw all my ramblings into one.

Lets start.

I missed InstaFriday this week because I pretty much forgot that it was Friday.

Here's my cell pics from the week.

The littlest Raider fan and he even painted his face.

They got to ride in the "cool" cart together for the first time. Big stuff for these guys.

An afternoon movie with the cousins.

He likes to use a beer coozie while having a little juice. Super classy.

We went to the aquarium this past week.

It always cracks me up that the kids are always so fascinated with the frogs.

The turtle was showing off.

We made blackberry banana smoothies the day after Thanksgiving...so yummy.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we had a wonderful day.

We spent time with both sides of our family and Ethan told me it was the best day ever.

Every year after we've eaten Thanksgiving dinner and settled down a bit we play Left Right Center.

It's great for big groups, which is perfect for us, and we love it.

I heard that after we left (kids needed to go to bed) the rest of the gang busted out the wave while playing.

My family is awesome.

On Saturday Brett got all the decorations out of the garage and I've been working on decorating the house.

I think this is the first year I've had all the decorating done before December 1st.

Well all but the tree.

Today the boys "helped" Brett with the lights.

They only managed to break one light.

Not too bad.

Thanksgiving {and a new tradition}.

While we were having dinner tonight we went around the table saying what we are thankful for.

Ethan replied, "I'm thankful for my whole garden and my whole family."

So simple and sweet.

While I could go on and on for all I am thankful for, I'm keeping it simple as well.

I'm thankful for Brett, my boys, the roof over our heads and our health.

Right now, in this moment I couldn't ask for more.

I'm happy and fulfilled.

I have a great sense of contentment, which is not always easy for me, and I like how it feels.

I love our life, what we are doing, what we are learning and how we are growing (I know that sounds really cheesy but it's true).

I'm also loving the stages the boys are in right now, while they are sometimes rough, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't want to forget it.

So this year, I'm starting a new tradition.

I'm writing both of the boys letters of thanks, telling each one why I am thankful for them at this time in their lives.

I'll put them away in their keepsake boxes and hopefully years from now we can sit around the table at Thanksgiving dinner and cry as we read all the letters I have written over the years..

At least that's how I see it playing out in my head.

I know things will change as time goes on and I don't want to forget why I'm thankful for each of them in their own special unique way.

Lastly, Happy Thanksgiving to you.

I hope you enjoy the holiday with those you love most.

I know I will be and thanking the Lord for every minute of it.

It's Friday!

Here's my cell pics of the week.

Ethan got a new job.

He likes pushing his brother around.

Some mornings are just too messy.

Lately Ethan has become quite the helper.

After playing at my mom's house both boys fell asleep on the ride home.

It didn't take long, we only live 5 minutes away.

I swear my phone was locked but apparently not.

I love this sweater and I don't wear it enough.

We've decided to gut our master bathroom.

We were going to do this some time ago but decided against it, but recently one of the floor tiles chipped really bad, plus there are a ton of other cracked tiles, so now is the time.

Luckily we have 2 bathrooms. I don't even know what people do when they have 1 bathroom and need to remodel it. I can't imagine.

So today I went tile shopping. While I was there I suddenly felt very grown up. In my head I was thinking, "This is what grown ups do. They remodel their houses and pick out tile and toilets and light fixtures. When did I grow up?"

Really? The bigger question should be, "Why am I thinking this now as I'm picking out tile?"

I mean, I've gotten married, bought a house, had two kids....very grown up stuff.

But tile! Tile makes me think I'm finally growing up?

What the heck!

Speaking of growing up, I bought gold glitter nail polish today. My fingers are nice a twinkly.

I feel festive and ready for the holidays now. Well at least my nails do.

Brett and I are going out tomorrow night. I'm pretty sure it's been over a month since we've gone out on a date. That's just not good. I'm not sure what we're going to do but I'm excited.

I need to find a birthday gift for a little girl turning 5.

I don't know what to buy 5 year old girls. Any help would be nice.

My nieces were over playing today and as Radley was leaving Ethan had this conversation with my Mom.

Ethan: "Thank you for coming over."

Mom: "Thank you for letting Rad come play."

Ethan: "I take care of her."

I pray that he continues to say this forever and ever.

Oh how he loves his girls.

He's a sweet boy, fast asleep on my couch right this minute.

I'm off to do more laundry, it never ends.

And then Zumba tonight!

Getting Crafty {Hoop Art}.

I don't consider myself a very crafty person, but when I started seeing all the fabulous hoop art making it's way around the blog I knew I wanted to give it a try.

I don't know how to sew or stitch but I do know how to use a hot glue gun so I went for it.

I pulled inspiration from this post and made these for our bedroom.

I got the wooden game pieces at the local flea market a couple of weeks ago. It just so happens that the A and B also have an E and J, for the boys. I didn't even realize it until I got them home. And the A and B numbers equal 4, the members of our family.

I love how these little blocks have so much meaning to our family.

I'm really happy with how they turned out and they are a perfect addition to our bedroom wall.

I also made this.

I may or may not be making some of these for Christmas.

I love how tiny this is and it makes for a perfect handmade personalized gift.

Like I said, I don't stitch, so it's not perfect but that's what I love about it.

Next up, fabric and yarn wreaths, if I can ever find the time.

I've had several different layouts and designs over the last year or so but this is by far my favorite.

Everything else was ok but when I saw this I knew I had to have it.

Recently, Heather at Life Made Lovely opened up a design shop which includes premade blog designs.

When I clicked on over to her shop, I saw this design and loved it.

I am oh so happy and comfortable with my new little Internet space.

So with the new design there are also a couple of changes I thought you should know about.

It's Friday!

Which means the easiest post ever!

What I Wore Wednesday {week 8}.

Hi!

I haven't been blogging much due to Brett being out of town (he's home now, yay!), sick little people, little sleep, and my crafting madness, which is for another day.

In all the craziness that has ensued over the last couple of days I managed to remember to take a photo of myself, just once.

Which really is a shame because I wore this really adorable jean dress with green tights and brown boots the other night, but I have no photo to prove it. Bummer.

Pretty much every photo I tried to take was horrific because Jacob was terrorizing my bedroom.

I was really bad this week with taking photos, including ones on my camera.

So I only have a few to share.

Our morning walks are getting a bit chilly.

And I suddenly have a 3 year old that doesn't want to have his picture taken.

Ethan likes to wear his football costume as much as possible.

On this particular day he wore it from 11am until bath time. Nap and all.

It's fun having nieces.

I got this ring yesterday at a charity boutique I went to.

I don't buy jewelry often, but when I do, I love it.

In other news...I've taken the plunge and joined Pinterest.

Oh how I'm hoping it doesn't suck hours of my life away from me.

I'm afraid it might, especially since my husband is going to be gone for 4 days.

Halloween 2011.

My boys were seriously so cute this halloween.

Ethan chose his own costume this year.

He needed the one with the muscles.

I didn't find a Robin costume small enough for Jacob so we went with the superhero theme.

And boy do they ever make the cutest superheros.

I don't have too many pictures of just the two of them together.

Ethan was too busy saving the world.

He did stop for one minute to get a picture with Radley and Jacob.

After visiting my parents we headed home and Brett had pizza waiting for us.

Then it was time!

We only trick or treated down our block since that was more than enough candy for us.

I loved being out in the neighborhood seeing all our neighbors and meeting new ones.

I'm afraid the tradition of going door to door won't last forever so we're enjoying it while we can.

We had a blast of a night!

p.s. My favorite part of the night was passing out candy with Ethan. He called all the trick-or-treaters "customers" and he took his job so seriously. The kid cracks me up!

This Morning.

I've had a rough morning.

Jacob has decided that 5ish or so is a suitable time to wake up everyday.

I've tried to convince him otherwise but he doesn't seem to believe me.

And when he wakes up, he's up.

No cuddling or holding or laying in my bed. He's ready to eat, play and climb.

Which means no easing into the day. I have to be alert and on the ball.

I wasn't happy about that this morning.

I was instantly in a bad mood.

It didn't take long for Ethan to wake up, since he could hear his little brother up and running around.

They soon started pulling and rolling around on one another which never ends good.

It wasn't long before I heard crying and screaming coming from them and it wasn't even 7am yet.

Breakfast wasn't going well, the kids were whiny, I needed coffee.

I started getting frustrated with the kids, being too harsh and short.

I complained and whined to my husband.

I went to the bathroom and cried for a minute.

All this just made things worse, obviously.

I dropped Ethan off at preschool, late, and headed to Starbucks. I needed it!

As I sat in the drive-thru I saw that a friend posted this on facebook.

It hit me right in the face.

It's not like this is a new concept, but I needed to read those words.

I'm sitting here crying and complaining, to my loving husband, in my cozy house about my two beautiful kids, while I really should be thanking God for all this and so much more.

Oh, how selfish and ungrateful I felt right then.

Now that doesn't mean I'm going to discount my feelings of exhaustion or being overwhelmed, but I most definitely do not need to take it out on anyone else, especially those I love the most.

There are far too many days I choose to focus on what I don't have or what is not going my way, when I really should be focusing on all the greatness God has blessed me with.

It's really so simple when I think about it, so why do I make it so hard.

So I'm choosing to change my attitude today.

Last night our family and friends came over for our annual pumpkin carving party.

I love having this party every year.

To me it feels like the kick off party to the holiday season.
Plus it gets me in the Fall mood, even if the weather disagrees (it's been warm here).

We ate yummy food, spent time with one another, and of course, carved.

We had a great time, as always.

A lovely evening indeed!

I haven't done a wiww post in forever.

I seriously always forget to take pictures of myself.

And it's still a little weird to me that I photograph what I'm wearing.

I can't seem to get the hang of it.

Anyhow, over the weekend my mom took me shopping for my birthday. Woot woot!

She does this every year.

We get a day, just the two of us, to shop and go out to lunch and enjoy the day.

It's fun and fabulous!

I got some pretty awesome stuff which I really haven't worn yet, but on Monday I did wear one of my new shirts.

Here's my cell phone photos from the week.

The boys enjoying an afternoon snack as the dog keeps a watchful eye.

Ethan was banned from the front yard due to him running away from me and around the block.

He sadly sat by the front window watching the neighborhood kids play.

It was hard to not let him out but I stuck to my guns.

Ethan and I made snickerdoodles.

Oh so good!

Jacob has decided he wants to feed himself.

He makes more of a mess eating now than he did as an infant.

And my floors have seen better days thanks to him.

I could mop everyday, but I don't.

My quick and sneaky little fella climbed up to my desk while I was making coffee one morning.

This was my lunch one day.

I had not eaten chili cheese fries in I don't know how long and they were so good.

It was red day at school this week and this is what Ethan wore.

It's my favorite shirt he has at the moment.

I was driving the kids around hoping they would fall asleep for naps and came across this donut shop.

The sign is amazing AND it's a drive-thru.

Why didn't I know about this place sooner?

And one out of two asleep isn't too bad.

Pictures of My Boys {or lack thereof}.

I haven't been taking many pictures of the boys lately.

I didn't even realize it until I picked up the camera today.

These are the last photos I took of them.

It hasn't rained in two weeks.

I'm usually pretty snap-happy when it comes to the boys so I'm not sure why my camera just been sitting on the desk. Life gets busy I guess.

So while we were outside playing I took a few photos of them.

I didn't get very many but the few I did capture what is happening right now with my boys.

Jacob has a new love for putting anything and everything into whatever container or bag he can find.

I love watching him fill a bucket with something, bend down to pick up more, only to have what he just picked up fall out.

Surprisingly he doesn't get very frustrated and just continues on.

We bought our Halloween costumes yesterday.

No Ethan is not going to be a football player but we couldn't pass up this steal of a costume for only $10.

It's made a great addition to our dress up clothes and he has worn it ever since we got it home.

Well, not to bed and to school but you get the idea.

And his blue eyes and wispy red hair makes me melt.

Can he please just stay small forever?

Before I show you the my lovely freshly planted pots I have to get something off my chest.

I hate the word succulents.

It makes me cringe to say it, it makes me cringe to even write it.

I can't tell you why, but I just do.

Some words are just like that for me.

Am I the only one? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Now that we got that out of the way, let me show you what I've got on my front porch.

For about 2 years I have had these pots right next to my front door.

I love them.

Some of you might even have them since they were at Ikea, which means they were a steal.

I've had the toughest time keeping anything alive in them.

I tried picking out plants and flowers on my own, they died.

I tried asking the plant and flower experts, they died.

I am usually pretty good at keeping things alive so this has been frustrating for me.

Plus, I was not happy with the waste of money. It gets expensive after a while.

I finally decided to go for succulents.

I know I'm a little late to jump on the succulent bandwagon, but to be honest, I was kind of over seeing them everywhere.

But I figured this was my last shot to keep something alive.

So I took the boys with me to Home Depot (we have a gift card, yay!) and I let Ethan do most of the choosing.

I didn't realize there were so many different succulents out there in so many different shades of green.

Beautiful!

While the boys were napping I headed outside and planted away.

I really enjoyed getting creative with the sizes, colors and variations.

I am really happy with how turned out and they make me smile when I walk through the front door.

The succulents have won me over.

Now if I could just come up with a better name?

I meant to post my cell phone photos on Friday, but I didn't.

Then I was going to on Saturday and then on Sunday, but I didn't.

So I am today.

An evening bike ride.

We're getting ready for halloween.

My little dare devil.

Me and the boys.

While it was raining last week Ethan built this tower. Then knocked it down 2 minutes later.

Boys are funny that way.

If a girl would have built this she probably would have pretended it was a castle where her princess barbie lives and she would have played with it for hours.

Not boys.

One of my all time favorite books in a very pretty cover, which I resisted purchasing.

I actually walked out of Barnes and Noble with out making a purchase at all.

That never happens.

Jacob is loving the big pumpkin.

This is just the sweetest.

We locked ourselves out of the house while taking a walk.

Thank goodness for small boys and dog doors.

It's Raining.

I don't like the rain.

I like the sun. I like warm weather, tank tops, flip flops, the beach.

Now don't get me wrong, I like fall.

I like that it brings cooler evenings, sweaters and the holidays.

I really don't like that fall brings rain.

Especially now that I have two young boys, which includes an extremely active 1 year old, that love to be outside.

By 10:30 this morning we had played with play dough, painted, colored, read books, and used all the blocks we had in the house.

They were busy.

Thankfully Brett is home today and he has been able to keep them entertained with me.

And thankfully he had the great idea of hooking up the bouncer in the garage.

Why didn't I think of that sooner?

When they wake up from naps I think I might just let them put on their warm gear and play around in the rain and the puddles.

I think it'll be good for everyone.

As, winter weather approaches I'm trying to come up with as many indoor activities for both kids.

Any suggestions?

Back in July when we were on vacation my sister's friend Allie came down to photograph our family.

If you live in the area and are in need of a photographer, you should definitely check her out.

Her business is called Salt+Light Photography and she is awesome.

She is super laid back and easy going, which makes the session so simple and fun.

She always gets the kids to laugh and she somehow gets them all to cooperate at the same time.

I don't know how she does it.
She's a miracle worker.

I'm just now trying to decide which ones I love the most to hang on walls and place around the house.

We took group shots, individual family shots, couple shots and just some of the kids.

There are so many good ones to choose from.

Saturday Afternoon.

On Saturday we took the kids to Seal Beach.

Ethan loves it there and I'm sure, as Jacob gets older, he will too.

Brett loves it because it's the beach. For him, the closer we are to the ocean the better. He would live there if we could. Someday, maybe we will.

I love it because the main street is so quaint and cute. I could stroll up and down the street for hours.

Plus the kids get worn out and always end up taking good naps. Bonus.

Our first stop was the jungle gym.

The kids climbed and played and ran around on the sand.

Then we took a stroll on the pier and decided last minute to eat lunch at Ruby's.

We had never taken the kids there and I haven't been back in years.

A little fun fact for you...I worked there, like 12 years ago. It seems like just yesterday but at the same time so long ago.

The kids got mini ice cream cones at the end.

They were pretty happy about it.

A lovely way to spend a beautiful, sunny California afternoon with my family, if I do say so myself.

It's InstaFriday time!

I didn't really take that many photos this week, so here's a few.

Jacob was getting ready for bed the other night and would not let go of the football.

He's making Brett very proud.

Ethan on a morning walk.

He likes to wear snow boots.

He's never worn them in the snow but he loves them.

I took the boys to the aquarium this week.

I love that we live so close.

The turtle is not always out swimming so Ethan was extremely happy we got to see him.

I went to the grocery store alone to pick up a few things.

I got to use the little cart with no kid seat.

I never get to use that one. I felt rebellious.

This is one of the things I completed this past week.

It was my first time making felt rosies, which were super easy, and now I want to put them on everything.

Blog Sugar '11.

Last night I attended Blog Sugar.

It was fantastic and oh so sweet!

From the decor to the food to the speakers, it was all fabulous.

When I first heard about Blog Sugar I was hesitant to go, so I asked my sister to go with me.

I'm not super outgoing and I knew if I had a friend with me I'd be more comfortable.

As I was getting ready, trying to decide what to wear and how to do my hair, I began to get nervous.

I was going to be meeting some serious bloggers, that are seriously awesome.

My insecurities started to set in.

My blog is not big and fancy, I don't have an etsy shop, my pictures are not fantastic and my writing doesn't dive deep.

I felt that I was going to be a tiny fish in a huge pond.

But I was wrong.

Now that doesn't mean I wasn't a tiny star-stuck, (blog-struck?) when I met

Heather, Jules and Lisa Leonard.

I mean, they're pretty great, right?

And I'm pretty sure I looked like a big dork talking to them. Fantastic.

Anyway, as I walked into the courtyard all my nervousness and insecure thoughts vanished.

I was there and I wanted to have a good time.

I needed to make the most out of being there and I did.

I met a ton of fabulous ladies and I can not wait to learn more about them through their blogs.

I was inspired by the speakers.

I was encouraged to write and tell more.

I was challenged to do more personally and with my blog.

I walked away feeling welcomed, happy, and warm.

I feel like I have a million things running through my head.

I need to get them out.

Here goes.

Last weekend we spent some time in Palm Desert with Brett's parents.

We relaxed, swam, ate, played...you know all the good stuff.

I only took a handful of photos and this is the winner for my favorite.

His little face is seriously just too cute.

We came home Sunday and Brett had to turn around and go back out there for a work conference.

He comes home tomorrow. Hallelujah.

It's tough being a single mom.

Hats off to those who do it every day.

A few weeks back we went to a local car show.

I'll take it.

All of it.

I've been getting crafty lately.

Probably because Fall is here, although it doesn't feel like it, and I'm looking forward to handmade gifts for the holidays.

I've got a list of things I want to do and I'll share along the way, that is if I actually do them.

Ethan is loving preschool.

Every time he goes right in the class and doesn't look back.

He hasn't cried once.

He's not shy.

He doesn't get that from me.

And he comes home smelling like his teacher from all her hugs.

I love it.

Have you been watching any new shows the last week or so?

I'm so glad good TV is back.

I love a good sitcom and I've been missing my favorites like Modern Family and The Office.

And Glee and Two and a Half Men.

I'll stop there since it's kind of embarrassing how much TV I actually like.

I'm excited and nervous.

Meeting new people makes me scared.

The Things I Hear.

Often times when I am out with my boys I hear the same comments.

"My you are busy."

"Oh Dear, you need a break."

"How do you ever get enough rest?"

and my favorite...

"Your hands sure are full."

(as I then look around to see what other children I must have collected along the way.)

I know people mean well when they makes these comments.

I know they are not trying to be rude. I know they are not trying to be negative.

I know they are not intentionally trying to hurt me, but they are.

Yes, all of the above it slightly true.

I am busy, some days, but generally we are pretty mellow and laid back.

Some days I do need a break, as any mother does, but I like what I do everyday. I like my job.

Almost every night I get enough rest, except for when the kids are sick, which thankfully is not often.

And sometimes my hands are quite literally full as I am carrying Jacob, the diaper bag, two sippy cups and holding Ethan's hand while we are crossing the parking lot.

These comments are hurtful because of what I think afterward.

Do I look that overwhelmed or disheveled?

Are the boys being too loud and noisy? I thought they were just having fun.

Are the bags under my eyes really that dark? I thought my makeup was covering them up. Heck the fact that I have makeup on is amazing.

Do my kids seem out of control or too hard to manage?

The answer is NO to all of the questions that run through my head.

I know that I'm not overwhelmed. I know that my boys are wonderful.

I know that I get enough rest. I know that I'm doing the best I know how.

I know that I want to be a mom, everyday.

So yesterday as we were loading groceries into our cart an elderly woman approached me.

"Here we go," I thought.

To my surprise she said,

"Honey, your children are so well behaved. They are beautiful and just so happy."

I thanked her, as Jacob flirted a little and Ethan loaded up some bananas, and then walked away beaming.

I felt full of pride.

That tiny little comment, that took all of 1 minute, was so affirming and gracious.

Wouldn't it be nice if we heard more of this everyday? Wouldn't it be nice if people focused on the positive and not the negative? Wouldn't it be nice if we praised one another for the good we are doing?

Wouldn't it be nice if we took a couple of moments to say a few kind words?

I think so.

And it would make my trips to Target and the grocery store a little happier.

Preschool {the first day}.

Today was Ethan's first day of preschool.

Ever.

His first day of his first year.

I was fine.

Until I started getting him ready.

All of the sudden it hit me.

He's growing up and I can't stop it.

I started to cry as I was combing down his hair and he says to me, "What's wrong Mama?"

I said, "I'm sad because you are getting so big."

He then says, "Don't be sad Mama. We are a team."

Seriously?

I cried a little more.

I finished getting him ready, took his picture, and then we were off.

Before we went to his class we saw Abby and Radley.

I love that he goes to the same school as his cousins. They aren't in the same class but they get to hang out during recess time. They are all pretty happy about that.

Oh and a little info for you...I went to preschool here, as well as my sisters, and one of my sisters teaches elementary school here.

It makes me all the more comfortable leaving him for a couple hours.

The first day was a short day, only an hour and fifteen minutes, and the parents got to stay.

He walked right in like he owned the place.

He said hi to his teacher then said,

"Jacob is 1. I try to be nice."

Oh the things kids say.

He played in the sand table, cooked a little, made playdough, used magnets, and built with blocks.

After school he got to choose what he wanted for lunch.

He picked McDonald's.

And then we had Sugar Jumbles for dessert.

My treat to him for finishing his first day.

I'm so proud of him for a great first day, but still a little sad that he's growing so fast.

Jacob's 1st Birthday Party.

I finally am getting the chance to post photos of Jacob's 1st birthday.

It's only been a week so that's not too bad, right?

It was a fantastic party, so much fun, good food, and I was stress free.

I'm never stress free for a party and boy does it make a difference.

Come the morning of the party I seriously had no worries.

Which secretly made me a tiny nervous because parties equal stress, right?

Anyway everything went wonderfully, except that I forgot to take a lot of pictures. Opps.

So I have no pictures of the fabulous cupcakes my sister made.

I'm really sad about that. I guess we'll just have to make them again and takes some photos.

Oh bummer.

On to the details...

I had so much fun creating all the decorations thanks to DimplePrints.

I loved being able to print out what I needed and create my own decorations.

I was super excited when I found these popcorn bins at the dollar tree. I knew they were just what I needed.

Since we had the carnival theme going we set up a few games for the "bigger" kids.

We had some yummy treats to start,

and an even better lunch.

(Costco pizza is the way to go. Cheap, easy, and so good.)

Everyone had a great time eating, playing, and enjoying the day.

My favorite part of the day was the cake.

For me, it's always the best part of the 1st birthday.

Jacob was slow to start, surprisingly, but once he had a taste he dove right in.

Such a messy, sugary little guy.

At some point the kids, big and small, got a little crazy with the face paint.

This is my favorite picture of him ever.

And lastly, the books!

Remember how we collected books for The Joyful Life Library?

Well we received 59 in all!!

Future Blogger?

Planner, coffee, pacifier...how most days start.

Ethan loves doing his "workbooks".
I've let him just kind of have at it with the Kumon workbooks we have and he's really enjoying it. It's so much fun watching him learn.

We made pancakes this week.

They were blue.

The little man had his 1 year check-up this week.

My how he's grown.

He's in the 75th percentile for his height, not surprising, but only 25th for his weight.

It looks like he too will be taking after Dad.

We bought flowers at Trader Joe's.

The heat was not their friend and they only lasted a couple of days.

Ethan fingerpainted.

The boys played nicely in the sandbox a few times this week, but mostly just in the mornings.

It's been too hot for my fair skinned little guys.

Thankfully, it's supposed to get cooler.

That sums up the week.

We've been busy, but not that busy.

Short and Sweet.

I have no laundry needing to be folded or put away sitting in my living room chair. The first time in days.

Both boys are taking a nap right now.

Brett is on a hunting trip and I was home alone with the boys last night. He comes home Friday.

I stayed up until midnight watching The Proposal. It was funny.

Jacob woke up at 5:15am.

I'm kind of tired, but Coffee and Diet Coke are my friends.

I'm almost finished with all the decorations for Jacob's big birthday bash on Sunday.

I bought a dress for the party. I don't wear dresses often.

The boys need a bath terribly. I hate to admit it but they haven't had one since Monday night.

I need a shower.

I need to paint my toenails. What I really need is a pedicure.

I'm off to eat frosting, watch HGTV, and use my hot glue gun.

We've Been Busy.

This past week we were busy.

Nearly everyday was filled with something fun to do, which doesn't happen often for us.

We went to our local Japanese Gardens, the Aquarium, the park and then ended the week with a progressive party with friends.

Have you ever done a progressive party?

We were on bikes all day with food and drinks at every stop.

It was so. much. fun.

In 1 week and 1 day Jacob will turn 1.

To celebrate our little guy we're having a birthday party with all our friends and family.

I have a huge family, which means a ton of people, which usually means a ton of gifts.

Gifts that we certainly do not need.

So instead of getting, we're giving.

When Ethan turned 1 we asked all of our party guests to bring books in lieu of gifts, which we donated to our local library.
It was a hit!

We were so pleased with the outcome we decided to do it again.

But this time all the books we collect will go to The Joyful Life Library, benefiting Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach.

We love this hospital!
Both boys were born there and both boys had to go there as infants for physical therapy.
The staff was always helpful to us and wonderful to the boys.
No hospital horror stories here.
So, we are very happy to give back to a place that has given so much to us.

Summer's End.

I know our summer isn't over quite yet, but I'm already sad for it's end.

This has been my first summer of being a stay at home mom.

I've loved it.

I've loved the freedom of doing whatever we want, whenever we want.

I've loved the lazy days, the long warm evenings, eating outside, spending time in the water, and soaking up the sun.

I plan on taking full advantage of the next 3 weeks before Ethan starts his very first day of preschool.

I'm just not ready for it all to be over, not yet.

It's been a while since I've done a What I Wore Wednesday post.

Lately I've been lazy with what I'm wearing and if I do have something cute on I forget to take a picture.

But I remembered yesterday.

I'm pretty sure I've worn all of this in different posts, but oh well.

Oh, except for the flip flops because while I was at the beach someone decided to swap their older, crummier pair for my nicer pair.

In other news, I'm officially growing my bangs out now.

Yuck.

I hate this super awkward phase of my hair and I can't wait for it to be longer.

I'll probably just end up cutting it again though.

Today I'm over it.

I'm over the whining, the fussiness, the crying, the fighting.

I'm over the mess, the dirty dishes, the piles of laundry.

Ethan has been in an ornery mood most of the day.

So bad that he threw himself on the floor at my sister's house screaming and yelling.

This rarely happens but, Really?

You would have thought I was torturing him.

And Jacob hasn't been feeling well for two days, which means lack of sleep (for everyone) and clinginess.

So I'm over it.
(Is that horrible to say?)

Thankfully they are sleeping at this minute and I'd love for it to continue for another hour.

I'd even take 30 minutes.

I rarely feel like I should get paid to stay home but today feels like one of those days.
Actually, I don't think I could even pay anyone to stay home with them today.
(I'm joking, slightly.)

Thank goodness that in just a couple of short hours Brett will be home to help.
I have an easy, frozen Trader Joe's dinner waiting and then I'll be off to my Zumba class.
I most definitely need to sweat it out!
A little workout and time away seems to make things better, usually, and I hope that'll do the trick tonight.
I'm off to sit on the couch in silence for at least a couple of minutes.
Hopefully.

As each day passes I feel my boys growing closer to one another.

Ethan wants to involve Jacob in most everything he is doing, and Jacob wants to learn.

Ethan is learning how to protect Jacob, and Jacob is listening to what he says, sometimes.

Ethan helps care for Jacob when he cries.

They squeal in delight and hug each morning when they wake up.

They make the other one laugh the hardest, my favorite.

I'm having the most fun sitting back, watching their relationship grow and form.

There is no bond like the bond of siblings.
And nothing makes me happier than knowing they will have each other forever.

we did a whole lotta nothing.

We stayed home, cooked, took a walk, watered the plants, played and laughed.

Pretty much a typical day except,

the boys didn't fight, not even once.

My boys aren't terrible, but they get into it.

They grab from one another, wrestle a little too hard, scream at one another, typical kid stuff.

But that didn't happen today.

They played together nicely and played alone quietly.

They didn't need me to interfere or help or rescue.

It was amazing.

And what better way to end the day then with dessert.

Nilla Waffers topped with banana pudding, banana slices and cool whip.

Did your mom make this for you as a kid?

I haven't had it in years and I knew the boys would love it.

It was a hit!

Next time I'm using chocolate pudding.
Yum!

Oh What a Difference.

A few months ago I purchased material to make curtains for my kitchen and laundry room.

Only problem, I don't sew.

Well after much lagging on my part, I asked my aunt and mom for help and the curtains are done.

I don't have any before pictures, just imagine white boring old blinds and shades.

(and I know these are not the best photos, but it's what I've got.)

Here is the kitchen...

I love them!

They add so much color and pop to our otherwise boring kitchen.

And here's the laundry room (more like laundry corner)...

I also added this little shelf with some goodies from around the house...

This little corner makes me happier while doing laundry.

I'm so pleased with how lovely these spaces turned out.

I Heart Faces: Friendship

When I saw this week's challenge at I Heart Faces I knew of just the photo I wanted to submit.

This is my favorite photo to date of my niece Abby and Ethan.

I love the way Ethan is squeezing her from behind and the look on both of their faces.

They were having so much fun that day, playing in the rain barefoot, rubbing rainwater in each other's hair.

They are the greatest of friends and I hope they will be forever.

This is what's on my mind today...

I have yet to join the Pinterest craze. I want to but I'm afraid I will become obsessed. I really don't need one more thing to take time away from the important things in life, but I think I might take the plunge.

I can't decide.

This little chunker took his first steps today.

I'm happy and terrified at the same time.
I fear emergency room visits are in our future with this one.

I want my house to stay clean for just one day.

In less than 2 months Jacob will be a year old and Ethan will start preschool.
What is happening?
Didn't I just bring them home from the hospital?

The suns out and it's Friday so we're headed to the beach with family and friends.
I love summer!

A Practical Centerpiece.

A few weeks ago I read this post by The Pleated Poppy.

If you haven't had a chance to visit Lindsey's blog I suggest you do so.

She makes some super cute stuff and her house is beautiful.

If I could build a dream house I would make it look similar to hers, especially the bathrooms.

I could just hang out in them for hours.

Ok, moving on.

In the post I mentioned she gave a tour of her dining room.

In the middle of the dining room table she placed things her and her family use daily.

What a simple, perfect idea for a centerpiece, don't you think?

I'm always looking for something to spruce up our table and nothing seems quite right.

Flowers are pretty, but die quick.

Everything I find is either too expensive, too small, or too large.

So I took Lindsey's idea and gathered things from around the house and Voila!

The shakers and candle were up in the cupboard, my sister gave me the tray, the flowers are from the backyard, the napkins were on sale at Target, and the starfish keeps them from blowing away.

Now I no longer have to get up from the table because I forget salt and pepper or napkins.

It's the little things that make me happy.

Ethan's 3rd Birthday Party.

On Sunday we celebrated Ethan's birthday with our family.

When I asked him what kind of party he wanted he told me Monster Trucks.

So Monster Trucks it was.

I didn't do any big planning or go crazy with food or spend a ton of money on decorations.

I kept it simple.

The kids played in the sandbox, raced monster trucks and drew with chalk.

We ate lunch.

Opened presents.

(yes, that is a big boy drum set. my neighbors are thrilled.)

And sang happy birthday.

But the main event was the pinata.

I'm almost certain none of the kids had hit a pinata before and they loved it.

Even my Uncle Jimbo got in on the action.

I think they were all on a sugar high for the rest of the day. At least Ethan was.

The kids had a blast and most importantly Ethan had one of the best days ever.

That's what he told me.
